Sažetak
A twenty-year-old Hermann’s tortoise (Testudo hermanni) was presented one month after the end of brumation cycle. The owners noted squinting and vision loss to the left eye as well as a different eye colour of the affected eye, immediately after the brumation had ended. The tortoise is housed in garden in which it hibernates each year. The left eye seemed to be the only health concern at the moment. On presentation, moderate blepharospasm was observed, and biomicroscopic examination revealed a corneal defect, centrally on the corneal vertex. Fluorescein dye was used to mark the degree of corneal damage. The ulcer was covering about 50% of the corneal surface and it was classified as an indolent ulcer with concurrent corneal oedema. The examination also revealed a well organized hyphema and a mydriatic pupil. Trauma to the eye was suspected. A treatment protocol was started, resembling the protocol used in mammal patients with corneal ulcers and uveitis. Corneal ulcer had healed within seven days from the start of local antibiotic therapy, with visible fibrotic scarring. Hyphema persisted so the treatment for uveitis was started. Three weeks later, all of the symptoms disappeared and the therapy was discontinued.
