Sažetak
Many plants of Brassicaceae family are known to hyperaccumulate metals. As many of the metals that can be hyperaccumulated are also essential nutrients, food fortification and phytoremediation might be considered as two sides of the same coin. Thus, an analysis of the plant accumulation capacity toward metals represents promising aspect of the plant usage. Lunaria annua (L.) (annual honesty), a plant from Brassicaceae family, is oilseed crop known for its pharmaceutical and nutraceutical applications [1]. In this study, L. annua was investigated for its hyperaccumulation potential in copper and lead-contaminated soil. The metal concentrations of copper and lead were measured before planting (seeds) and after the plants were harvested. Two types of soils were used: commercially available organic mineral substrate (COMPO SANA) and a soil sample collected from the Botanical garden Faculty of Science, University of Split. For the determination of copper and lead, square-wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV), using mercury film on glassy carbon electrode, was applied. This method was slightly modified from Farghaly and Ghandour [2]. The concentrations of Cu and Pb were calculated in the sample using the standard addition method. Influences of various parameters of soils, such as pH, organic matter and soil composition on hyperaccumulation capacity were also investigated.
