Sažetak
Besides their ability to cross the placental barrier and cause negative effects on fetus as a part of acute toxicity, even more important are effects of chronic exposure to low doses of heavy metals, which, as a part of maternal exposome, may extend to early childhood and influence early growth and development. Also, acting as endocrine disruptors they can be related to occurrence of complex diseases (such as metabolic syndrome, diabetes, obesity and hypertension) in adulthood.
