Sažetak
Following the recent recognition of halogen bonding as an important structure-directing force in many coordination complexes, there is considerable interest in exploring and understanding related interactions involving electrophilic sites of main group elements (including chalcogens and pnictogens). In order to develop new synthetic avenues for the reliable construction of robust 1-D metal-containing building units [1-3], we have now started to examine if chalcogen bonds are capable of producing 1-D coordination polymers analogous to those structures that have been built with halogen- and hydrogen-bonds as synthetic vectors. In this contribution, we describe the structures of several thiocyanate complexes of cadmium(II) with small pyridine-type ligands, where chalcogen bonds seem to play important roles in the supramolecular assembly of 1-D coordination polymersOur new structural data are further explained within the context of information retrieved by extensive data mining of the CSD.
