Sažetak
Territory of the Istog municipality (Kosovo), situated north of the Drini i Bardhë River Basin, has been extensively studied to assess distribution and correlation of the chemical characteristics of spring and well waters and to identify the major variables responsible for water quality variations. A total of 23 sampling points were selected in investigated river basin during the year of 2010 and have been analyzed for 24 characteristics. Spring water samples were characterized using UV–Vis spectroscopy, atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), and titrimetrimetric methods. The program “Statistica ver. 6.0” has been used for calculations of basic statistical parameters, to find distribution and relationships between data, to find anomalies (extremes and outliers) values of measured parameters, and to perform Q- and R-modality cluster analysis. From the results of field work and laboratory analyses, it was found out that only 4 springs and wells of 23 samples fulfill the EU criteria set for drinking water. This indicates that spring waters of this area do not have “good status” and are continuously endangered by chemical pollution, mainly from septic tanks, using of chemical fertilizers and using of water purification which are extensively used in this area. Therefore, continuous monitoring of waters of studied springs and wells is strongly advised, as well as treatment of waters before being used for drinking.
