Sažetak
Aromatic plants are well known to have significant amount of secondary plant metabolites present, such as polyphenols, in their leaves, flowers …etc. Content of this group of compounds is also known to vary dependant of the plant season. Total content of phenols, tannins and condensed tannins were investigated in aromatic plant Satureja montana L. in two different seasons (March and June). The samples were dried (leaves) for 15 days at room temperatures without the presence of sunlight. After that samples were grinded and prepared for the isolation. Ultrasound isolation with acetone and methanol as solvents was used. Extractions were conducted using acetic acid solution in diethyl ether for pigments and fat removal. Total phenols content was measured using Folin-Ciocalte[1][2] reagent at 725 nm with UV/VIS spectrophotometer. Tannic acid was used as standard. Total content of tannins[3] was measured on the same way as total phenols after the PVP polymer treatment of the extracts(removal of nontanninic phenols). Condensed tannins were measured using HCl-n-butanol reagent with UV/VIS spectrophotometer. (+)-catechine was used as standard. A significant seasonal variations were recorded. Increase of the total phenols, tannins and condensed tannins content in June sample, in comparison with March, could be linked to the blooming period vicinity of this plant (August).
