Sažetak
The registers of the accurate and accessible digital maritime boundaries, with defined territorial claims and property rights, are of the vital importance for the protection of natural resources and development of the economy of each country. Such registers that allow defining, visualising, recording and managing the rights in marine space can be referred to as the marine cadastres. As the marine space is volumetric by nature, there is a need for the development of the 3D cadastre information systems with well-defined geodetic references. While defining the vertical reference frames over the land relies mostly on gravity-related heights that are realised through the levelling networks related to the sea level measurements at tide gauges, defining the vertical reference frames over the sea area represents a great challenge. This paper presents the considerations on defining the vertical reference frame over the Adriatic Sea needed for development of Croatian 3D marine cadastre and other tasks in geodesy. That includes reviewing of the methods and data processing steps needed for employment of the satellite altimeter and tide gauge data as well as the discussion on the new measurements needed to provide for the realisation of the Croatian offshore vertical reference frame.
