Sažetak
This is a small portion of our current work. It is one of many digressions we have gone into trying to increase robustness of the geometrically exact beam finite elements based on the configuration- tensor approach. We focus on the trigonometric coefficients within the matrices needed in nodal update, interpolation of unknowns, and evaluation of strain measures in the proposed formulations, which are numerically unstable. We assess their (erratic) behaviour as their argument approaches zero and propose a remedy. Finally, we test whether this intervention improves our formulation.
