Sažetak
Pull-Pull specimens consisting of grouted nominal six inch concrete or clay masonry block, reinforced with spliced #4 or #7 reinforcing bar, were subjected to monotonic or cycling loadings, while end-point displacements, relative displacements between the steel and the original plane of reference (slip), and strains in the steel were observed. The bond stress distribution between the steel and surrounding grout was calculated from the rate of change of the stress in the steel. Primary crack formation in the specimen increased the end point displacement, slip, and stress in the steel, while the overall stiffness of the specimen decreased. Cyclic loading produced progressive degradation of the specimen stiffness. Ductility of specimens was limited by the formation of longitudinal crack. Specimens reinforced with #4 bars were able to develop acceptable ductility, while those with #7 bars were unable to develop yield in the steel. It would appear that a limitation of maximum bar size as a function of thickness of wall could improve ductility by reducing the formation of longitudinal cracks.
