Sažetak
Teaching moduel: Basic theoretical background of standardization as one of methods for controlling the effect of confounding in epidemiology is presented. Direct method of standardization as most common standardization method is presented in details, using a case study. Step by step the procedure is described using simple spreadsheet computer tool for facilitating it. After completing this module students should: 1) understand a role confounding in epidemiologic studies ; 2) increase knowledge about methods of controlling of confounding in epidemiologic studies ; 3) understand principles of direct standardization ; 4) be capable to calculate age-standardized death rates using direct method.
