Sažetak
A three-dimensional micropolar hexagonal finite element interpolated using the conventional Lagrange interpolation and enhanced with incompatible modes is presented. After assuring convergence by performing patch tests, some of which are derived specifically for micropolar finite elements, the element performance is demonstrated by modelling two analytical boundary value problems, both exhibiting the size-effect phenomenon. The analysed problems involve a cylindrical plate bending and pure torsion of circular cylinders, which are shown to be important in the experimental determination of the micropolar material parameters. The obtained results are compared against the analytical solution, and for the pure-torsion problem they are additionally compared with existing experiments on polymeric foam. The enhancement due to incompatible modes significantly improves the element performance in the bending test, but has no effect in the pure-torsion test. It is concluded that the element is highly suitable for the numerical validation of experimental procedures.
