Sažetak
The wills and testaments left by Juraj Baraković and his wife Katarina Biloević present the primary historical sources and samples of a specific Humanist genre of ars moriendi, both precious for exploring interesting facts about the poet’s life in Šibenik. Baraković had personally compiled his own will and in doing so, has given an individual shape to a conventional genre, whose content was now marked with his own recognizable style. In this manner, he had left behind an immediate testimony of the relationship he had with the people he considered as closest ones, as well as a testimony of his own worldview: the ideas on death, faith and goods that he divided among his heirs. Its content suggestively reveals the self-perception of a writer’s position in Šibenik during his period, while pieces on his everyday life resonate as a real-life context within which he created. In addition to this, Baraković’s will also presents data that raise certain new biographical issues and relativize the body of knowledge on the poet that so far was held as more or less trustworthy. In addition to the legal value of documents at the individual level of meaning, both wills present texts of cultural value that mirror the atmosphere of Šibenik in the first half of the 17th century.
