Sažetak
Three-dimensional mathematical modeling of solidification of a steel casting of relatively complex geometry, in sand mold, is presented in paper. An algotithm was obtained by means of Brians numerical implicit method and programmed in ASCII FORTRAN computer language for Sperry 1106 computer. The simulation was preformed for low-carbon, steel casting with 0, 25 % carbon, and cast in a sand mold of known thermal properties. On the basis of simulation, the solidification time and sequence can be determined, together with temperature gradient, the point of occurrence and shrinkage cavity dimensions. Mathematical models were verified experimentally by means of temperature measurement in the casting and sand mold, and by visual observation (location and dimensions of shrinkage cavity). The computed results agreed relatively well with the experiment. The results indicated, in a modern and scientific way, the point of occurrence and dimensions of shrinkage cavity in a casting of relatively complex geometry.
