Sažetak
The tradition of growing vegetables in Croatia and the diversity of weather and soil conditions have created a valuable eco population and vegetable varieties. A large part of Croatian germplasm of vegetables is lost and the remaining part is at risk due to new hybrid seeds of introduced varieties and the loss of local seed production. In 2005 the Commission for Plant Genetic Resources was established to preserve plant genetic resources of crops – the body has working groups that have developed the National program in agriculture. The Program schedules the establishment of a gene bank that would monitor the collection, identification, regeneration and preservation from the permanent loss of endangered varieties and plant populations.
