Sažetak
In the past years, gambling in Croatia has experienced an expansive growth which reflected in very high rates of adolescent gambling problems (Ricijas et al., 2016). Contemporary research demonstrates how, besides individual risk factors, family variables have an important role in explaining youth problem gambling (Griffiths, 2002). Since gambling is often referred to as hidden addiction, parental awareness of children’s gambling habits and potential problems undoubtedly need to be taken into account. Therefore, the aim of this study is to explore parental perception of their children gambling and to compare it to children’s self-report. Current study was conducted with N=447 matched pairs of high-school students and their parents. The Questionnaire on basic socio- demographic characteristics, Gambling Activities Questionnaire and Canadian Adolescent Gambling Inventory–CAGI (Tremblay et al., 2010) were used. The results show that parental perception of their children’s gambling is significantly different compared to their self-report. These findings will be interpreted in relation to Croatian socio- economic context. Potential practical implications will be addressed.
