Sažetak
No organisation or institution can exist in isolation, which means that every organisation and institution exists within a certain environment and depends on the elements and conditions prevailing in that particular environment. This paper analyses the importance of this aspect for the institutions involved with maritime education and training of seafarers (MET) as well as the ways in which the mentioned institutions can adapt to the environment taking advantage of their close connections with it. Therefore, the paper analyses: the definition and the elements of maritime environment, the importance of the maritime environment in organising education of seafarers and the implementation of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers (STCW Convention) in maritime education.
