Sažetak
Although an architect, in this work T. G. Jackson paid great deal of attention to the history of coastal and island cities on the eastern Adriatic coast. The aim of this paper is an attempt to reconstruct the method Jackson used to compile introductory histories, what bibliography was used and the criteria employed. The history of cites on eastern Adriatic coast by T. G. Jackson did not follow the costal line NW to SE, as it was the custom with previous British travel writers, but instead in his three volumes he applied the order of the cities' visitation during his sojourns in the course of several years on the Adriatic coast. In compiling his histories Jackson drew on the general histories in English and other literature that deals with eastern Adriatic. The most important authors he read were Ivan Lučić, Daniel Farlati, Giambattista Cubich, Frane Bulić and Jakov Boglić. Besides those, he used other works available in libraries on the coast, amongst them the most prominent was Paravia Library in Zadar. With no doubt, his main narrative line followed Lučić's De Regno. The most of Jackson's history narration without the critical questioning tracked the line of the mentioned authors giving particular attention to chronology of the rulers and political history. Naturally, Jackson also paid special attention to urban history placing it inside the general history context. The additional features that can be extracted from Jackson's histories are his particular British perspective on the region which can be subjected to the historical imagology. In my presentation I would try to demonstrate the technique he employed in creating the image of the region through specific discursive expression that incorporates the elements of imperialism, colonialism and the certain stereotypes that were particular to British travel and history writings genre on the eastern Adriatic coast and the Balkans in the 19th century.
