Sažetak
In this paper two genetic algorithm (GA) based methods, one newly designed and one previously proposed, for the optimal design of large distribution systems solving the optimal location and sizing of new substations and network routing, have been compared. Due to the different encoding they employ and the set of meaningful genetic operators, they strongly differ in number of optimization procedure phases, number of planner-controlled parameters and constraint handling technique. The main advantages and drawbacks of both methods have been discussed regarding the computational efficiency and implementation simplicity. The numerical result have led us to conclude that the newly designed method can obtain significant improvements over the existing in a reasonable amount of CPU time compared with respect to the dimensions of the problems.
