Sažetak
This paper investigates the circumstances of founding and operation of the first faramceutic-chemical factory in Southeast Europe, which started work in 1893 and was located in the town Pregrada, Croatia. The beginning of industrial production of medicines in Croatia is related to the family Thierry de Chateavieux, a noble French family who moved to Croatia. Here they opened the first pharmaceutical company in South East Europe. Pharmacist Adolf Chateauvieux in the year 1892 received a concession bill from the croatian government to open and start the drug manufacturing process. According to the project of the then famous architect of Zagreb, Gjure Carnelutti, a building and a production complex was built, within which in the year 1893 a pharmacy K angjelu čuvaru was opened. The production of drugs was in accordance with the strict regulations of the Croatian-Slavonian Pharmacopoeia from 1888 and 1901. The most famous preparations of Adolf Thierry was Thierry's balm and Thierry's centifolium fat, which were both at that time sought and appreciated all over the world. Both preparations were protected by a patent law issued in London in 1900. As Adolf Thierry other family members were also educated for pharmacists and continued their family work. The pharmacy K angjelu čuvaru today still retaines the original look original with a part of preserved original inventory.
