Sažetak
The goal of a successful nitrogen (N) management program is to match plant-available N with crop needs. In this study we evaluated the convenience of chlorophyll content index (CCI) and plant sap nitrate (NO3-) test as a rapid field test for estimation of barley crop N status. Eighteen barley varieties were side dressed with 4 different N rates (0, 60, 120 and 180 kg ha-1 KAN (27 % N)). Measurements of CCI, plant sap NO3- concentration, plant N concertation, and dry matter content (DM) were obtained at 4 different measurement times. The responsiveness of measured variables to N fertilization treatments were tested, and the correlation coefficients among plant N concentration, CCI, plant sap NO3- concentration and DM were calculated. Results showed that measurement of both CCI and plant sap NO3- concentration responded to increasing nitrogen fertilization rates. In addition, both CCI and NO3- concentration were positively correlated with the plant N concentration. The highest correlation coefficient (r=0.6769) was found between plant N concentration and plant sap NO3-concentration.
