Sažetak
In spite of long tradition, cycling in Croatia has been neglected from the early sixties. The contemporary reconstruction of dilapidated areas along the river and railroad with opening this areas for cycling would greatly improve accessibility between districts in continental towns in Croatia. For planning cycling routes in is important to accept the following facts: along the river banks recreation areas with cycling routes are planned and developed ; residential areas should be connected with this recreational areas within the city and its surrounding through the system of secure and comfortable cycling and pedestrian paths ; usage of cycling paths primarly for recreation, cycling will be progressively recognized as valuable personal transport and at the sam time, byclicts will be encouraged to use bycicles without feer and danger, not only for recreation, but for personal transportation as well. Main cycling routes should be connected in the next phase of town development with specialy regulated areas for pedestrian and bicyclists in the town center.
