Sažetak
The majority of energy production in the current system is operating on a centralized model of production which is treating consumers as passive recipients of energy. This is changing since more distributed energy resources are being introduced into the system and consumers are taking more active role as producers and consumers of energy (i.e. prosumers). In this short presentation I will outline research ideas for my PhD. First, I’m interested in exploring if participation in energy production has an effect on energy consumption, and which psychological mechanisms can explain change in energy demand happening on the individual level (e.g. learning mechanisms, self-identity, social identity). Also, I will explore if different modes of participation in energy production (from domestic scale production to production via community energy cooperatives) can account for change in energy consumption happening on the individual level. Second line of inquiry will explore acceptability of technological and social innovations which require more active engagement of individuals in the processes of energy production. In this part of research I will focus on understanding why different ownership models, ranging from corporate top-down to cooperative bottom-up approaches, are more acceptable and which individual level mechanisms can account for it.
