Sažetak
Developing nanocomposites for advanced applications requires the ability to tailor their properties. A major challenge in achieving the ability to control and predict nanocomposite properties is an understanding of the structure. This research focuses on relating structure and mechanical properties of non-toxic nanocomposites with antimicrobial activity. Nanoparticles of chitosan (CS) and ZnO, both with antimicrobial activity, are added in poly(vinyl-alcohol) (PVA) matrix. CS in the mixture reduces the crystallinity of the matrix leading to a degradation of mechanical properties. However, the properties can be improved by chemical crosslinking with glutaraldehyde (GA) and by adding ZnO nanoparticles. Molecular dynamics of these mono-, bi- and ternary systems with different compositions is examined by means of dynamic mechanical analysis.
