Sažetak
Contagious agalactia affects many sheep/goat flocks in the world, particularly in southern Europe, Mediterranean basin and the Middle East. The disease can cause great economic loss due to mastitis and agalactia in small ruminants and consequently also loss of lambs/kids as well as arthritis and keratoconjunctivitis. The aim of the study was to determine the presence of contagious agalactia (Mycoplasma agalactiae) in small ruminants in Slovenia using serological testing. In 2015, blood samples were taken from 376 goats originating from 24 flocks and 194 sheep from 64 flocks from different regions of Slovenia (all regions of Slovenia were included). Additionally, a total of 255 serum samples were taken in the beginning of 2016 from four most important controlled flocks of three Slovenian autochthonous sheep breeds, i.e. Istrian pramenka sheep (n=81), Bovša sheep (n=76) and Jezersko-Solčavska sheep (n=98) and included in the study. All samples were tested for the presence of specific antibodies using commercial ELISA Mycoplasma agalaciae Antibody screening test kit according to the instructions of the manufacurer (Idexx, USA). In all tested samples from sheep (n=449) and goats (n=376) the results were negative to antibodies to Mycoplasma agalacitiae. According to the results of serological testing, contagious agalactia seems not to be present in Slovenia.
