Sažetak
Measurements of radon concentrations in homes, schools and kindergartens of Sisak-Moslavina (S- M) county were performed by means of passive, strippable, nuclear track etched detectors LR115 type II (Kodak-Pathé, France). Around thousand detectors were exposed for a year in homes (266 detectors), kindergartens (143) and schools (605). In kindergartens, detectors were placed in all playrooms while in schools in selected classrooms, libraries, staff rooms, teacher’s rooms, etc. at all levels of building. The average radon concentrations in houses of S-M county is 117 Bq m-3 while in kindergartens and schools are 164 and 207 Bq m-3, respectively. Moreover, in 13 % of kindergartens and 19 % of schools, the average radon concentrations are higher than 300 Bq m- 3, which is the highest radon reference level for public buildings with high occupancy. Even more, there are three schools in S-M county (PŠ Maja, OŠ Galdovo, OŠ Popovača) with classrooms where radon concentration exceeds 1000 Bq m-3, which represents the action level for intervention measures in Croatia. Measurements of radon in soil gas and permeability of soil enables the calculation of geogenic radon potential (GRP). The obtained average value and its standard deviation of GRP of 25 ± 12 at 48 measured locations classifies the S-M county as the area of upper medium class of GRP. Maps of spatial distribution of indoor radon concentrations for homes as well as for kindergartens and schools were created by using the Inverse Distance Weighting interpolation method. This is one of the useful methods for identifying and defining of radon prone areas.
