Sažetak
INTRODUCTION: The use of simulation and technology as an educational tool is becoming increasingly prevalent in health care practice and these innovations have shown to have a significant impact on the quality of nursing education. Therefore, institutions have adopted simulations and ICT to help educate their students and other health care professionals ; however, the effectiveness and full benefits of these methods in different areas of medical education are yet to be fully determined. METHODOLOGY: In addition to describing contemporary methods and tools used in the education of nurses at the University of Applied Health Sciences in Croatia, a detailed review of the peer-reviewed literature was conducted, with the purpose of furtherly identifying different effects of simulation-based learning and technology on students’ perception of the quality of education as well as to detect other benefits of before mentioned educational tools. DISCUSSION: Clinical patient simulation technology has evolved rapidly over the past twenty years, in a way that the current generation of patient simulators and ICT devices have numerous advanced clinical scenarios that can be programmed to create a structured, clinically realistic, and safe learning environment ; and by using them in conjunction to other contemporary educational methods – provide a valuable and motivating learning experience for nursing students. In 2015, University of Applied Health Sciences began with the implementation of Apple devices into the educational process, in addition to other conventional simulation devices, thus being one of the first in its region with several fully integrated Apple classrooms and laboratories, earning Apple Lighthouse Certificate and becoming a Regional Training Center. CONCLUSION: Contemporary technologies have become an integrative part of our daily lives, and by incorporating them into the education of nursing professionals, they provide a positive and enhanced learning experience. Its effects, such as enhancement of communicational skills, patient interaction, management and other, has been consistently shown through studies.
