Sažetak
Natural water throughout the world contains natural organic matter (NOM) in various concentrations. NOM changes physical characteristics of water like taste, smell and color. During the water chlorination process harmful disinfection by - products can be formed in a reaction between the organic matter and chlorine. Fenton process has shown good efficiency in degradation and removal of natural or ganic matter from water. However, homogeneous Fenton systems have some drawbacks which can be overcome by the usage of heterogeneous catalysts, where iron catalyst is immobilized on a support material. An application of heterogeneous Fenton - type catalysts were investigated for the degradation of natural organic matter from two sources: model humic acid solution and natural groundwater from Osijek area. Supported iron catalysts were prepared by impregnation of different iron forms (FeOOH, Fe(III), Fe(II)) on natural zeolite clinoptilolite as support material. The performance of the catalysts was compared and the effects of the most relevant operating conditions (catalyst concentration, H 2 O 2 concentration, pH) was estimated. The usage of heterogeneous catalyst s allows process to be operated at pH conditions close to neutral and in that conditions heterogeneous Fenton processes yielded similar and even better results.
