Sažetak
The central challenge of the globalized and changing world is managing resources. Finding the right balance between economies of scale and responsiveness to local conditions requires an overarching manager's competence called emotional intelligence (E.I.). As the current global monetary imbalances and financial instability have created uncertainty for many workers, insurance companies offer them insurance, the form of risk management to hedge against the uncertain losses. In exchange for payment, insurance companies transfer the equitable risk of a loss. However, demanding customers and aggressive competition require a new sales approach for insurance services, which counts on agent’s EI. The purpose of this paper is to develop an understanding of the concept of intelligence and emotions and their impact on the workplace performance, specifically in the insurance industry. The primary objective of this research is to outline and test the relationship between EI and work performance, particularly the relationship between investment in employees’ education and improvement of their personal and professional competences. To meet stated primary objective, the approach used in this research is based on the 360 Degrees Feedback Reports and the statistical method of chi square testing. We hypothesized that investing in workers’ education increases the efficiency in the workplace, though improvement of employee’s personal and professional competences. The major results of this research lead to the conclusion that EI intelligence can be a useful decisive factor for assessing non- managerial employees and managers in terms of development of their personal and professional competencies. The implication of this research is to support long-life learning about EI and enable employees to develop their ability to perceive, identify, and manage emotion in the work environment.
