Sažetak
Tracked vehicle transmissions are not only an important component of the tracked vehicle propulsion system, they also provide vehicle control. Fixed turning radii of tracked vehicles represent a syntagm for non-kinematic steering systems for tracked vehicles, i.e. for the principles which are the basis for some of the transmissions that enable tracked vehicles steering. In order to improve mobility characteristics, as well as the vehicle manoeuvrability features, some transmission solutions provide two, and some even more fixed turning radii. The paper first of all warns of the wrong usage of the fixed radii syntagm, since it is not in accordance with the principles which form the basis of the tracked vehicles steering systems. Furthermore, some problems resulting from transmission solutions based on the principles of non-kinematic steering systems, and having more than one kinematic (fixed) turning radius, are pointed out. The analysis of results obtained by testing a vehicle with such a transmission confirms the theoretical considerations and indicates the way to rational solutions of transmission based on the principles of non-kinematic steering system.
