Sažetak
Alpine skiing is a winter sport, and training during summer months often relies on alternative sports using similar elements as skiing. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate contribution of inline skating to learning basics of alpine skiing. We included 139 young participants, randomized to two equal-sized groups based on their previous knowledge of recreational inline skating. They were included in 10-days alpine ski school under similar conditions. One group used inline skating before participating in alpine ski school and other didn't. Knowledge of alpine skiing was estimated during performance of six previously chosen elements of ski technique. Significance of difference between ski knowledge of two groups was determined by ANOVA. The overall level of new alpine ski knowledge was tested by Factor analysis. Pearsons correlation coefficients (r) were used to determine the correlation between knowledge of alpine skiing and knowledge of rolling. Significant difference in the level of acquired ski knowledge was determined between the two groups (p=0.00). Results suggest how inline skating prior to structured program of alpine ski school can aid better learning of alpine skiing. The calculated Eigen value of first principal component (ƛ=5, 741) was significant and represented the acquired alpine ski knowledge. Participants with recreational knowledge of inline skating were more efficient in learning alpine skiing compared to participants lacking knowledge of inline skating (4.1 vs. 3.4 ; p=0.00). Additionally, results showed high significant correlation between acquired knowledge of alpine skiing and estimated knowledge of inline skating (r=0.78). Theories of learning new motor activities suggest easier transfer of motor patterns in case similar elements exist and knowledge of one sport makes learning of other easier. We tested if knowledge of inline skating aids learning basics of skiing. Significant correlation between knowledge of inline skating and acquired knowledge of alpine skiing in our investigation suggests this is an advantage when starting a basic alpine ski school program. In conclusion, pre-season inline skating contributes efficiency of learning basics of alpine skiing.
