Sažetak
Factors other than health concern, such as taste preferences, cultural norms, and food availability influence specially adolescents’ food choice. The aim of this study was to determine nutritional habits among adolescents according to smoking and gender. The subjects were 341 healthy adolescents aged 15-17 years who attended high school. Weight and height were determined using standard techniques and following the norms of the WHO and body mass index (BMI) was callculated. FFQ method was used for assessment of daily energy and nutrient intake and all data were compered with RDA for age and gender. Additional questionnaire was used for cigarette smoking. The results indicated that 19 % of adolescents both genders smoke cigarettes. Average energy and nutrient intake of adolescents is mostly in correlation to RDA for age and gender. Statistically significant difference (p< 0.05) between adolescents who smoke cigarettes and not was obtained for energy fraction of breakfast and snacks during a day, consumption of fast food as well as body mass index (BMI). In this study, as in similar studies cultural norms as influence in nutritional habits among adolescents are detected.
