Sažetak
The metabolic syndrome is the the association of diabetes mellitus type 2 with metabolic abnormalities including obesity, hypertension, dislypidemia and hyperinsulinemia. The aim of this study was to evaluate (a)the effect of an intensive educational learninig and relaxation excerciseon rheological variables and (b) their relationship to metabolic parameters in diabetic patients with metabolic syndrome after 3 months of treatment. Eight men (group A) attended intensive treatment consisting of weekly education about nutrition and other lifestyle habits with physician, while clinical psychologist conducted the exercises of relaxation. Nine men (group B) had only conventional counseling. Hemorheological variables were characterized by the measurement of fibrinogen and viscosity of plasma and metabolic variablessss included lipid status, HbA1C, insulin and sialic acid concentrations. After 3 months of treatment, significant changes of plasma viscosity, fibrinogen and sialic acid , parallel with changes of body weight , HbA1c HDL-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol was observed in group A. In group B only differences in body weight . The results of d metabolic variables included lipid status, hemoglobin A1C, insulin and sialic acid concentration. Both groups were on weight reducing diet. Before the treatment no difference this pilot study suggest that the intensive short-term educational group programme had a beneficial effect on the rheological and lipid parameters.
