Sažetak
The paper gives an overview of some major innovations in postal technology by using Intelligent Transport System (ITS) applications, ranging from improvements of classical operations (processes) to implementation of brand-new services. It is a fact that postal operators are in the position to make significant changes in technological processes by introducing advanced telematic tools and applications as result of different social and technical developments in their local (national) and global environment. At the world level, the postal system is greatly intensifying (in a synergetic manner) the effects of its activities because of the physical distribution of its capacities and concentration of "addressed goods", which is emphasized also as the main strategic development guideline of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). It is necessary to recognize the opportunity that the present actions can result in positive goals both in postal as well as in traffic system in general, since the essence of these possible improvements lies in the necessity of increased interactions among traffic modes at all levels. Such consideration of traffic development as research-methodological utility enforces the use of adequate systemic analysis and synthesis, and in the technological sense it requires an evaluation of particular ITS applications by phases of implementation into postal activities.
