Sažetak
Growing traffic flows generated by touristic movement make Croatian continental and coastal region very sensitive to traffic accidents and crashes. This situation requires strategy and concrete measures to minimize accidents and crashes on Croatian roads during summer months. Paper discuss factors which are critical to effective safety and suggest conceptual approach to developing Proactive Road Safety System that will reduce crash occurance related with touristic movement. Substantial value of PRSS occurs in reducing touristic traffic jams and specific risky drivers behaviors. Crash prediction model which include accident factor related with heuristic movement are proposed as a complement to existed models based on multiple linear regression and multivariate ratio of polynomials search. There is a empirical based evidence that safety can be improved using proactive on-line communication and distribution of usable traffic informations related with speed, flows, road geometric characteristics and specific drivers behaviors. The most important enabling technology for proactive safety informations (GSM, GPRS) are available on all main Croatian touristic roads.
