Sažetak
While the organic solid-state has provided numerous examples of productive strategies of non-covalent synthesis, the synthetic strategies for metal-organic solid-state systems have not received anywhere near the same attention. Those systems are inherently more difficult to control via hydrogen or halogen bonds than their purely organic counterparts. In addition to counter ions and solvent molecules that usually stand in the way of successful supramolecular synthesis, the additional lone-pair on the ligand itself basically intended for the coordination to metal cation can also have a disruptive effect on a desired supramolecular pattern. Here we opted to study the systems with multiple potential binding sites with intention to examine experimental conditions for targeting a specific supramolecular motif. In this particular case, we have focused on 4- hydroxyquinazoline as a promising ligand for which two coordination modes, both via the aromatic nitrogen atoms, were reported. We used a supramolecular ‘protecting groups’ with idea in mind to affect a shift in tautomer form of the ligand what consequently results in a particular way the ligand binds to the metal center leaving the suitable functional group available to dial-in the desired supramolecular motif.
