Sažetak
As properties and performances of solid materials can be controlled by specific features of the 3-D orientation of the molecules or ions that make up a particular material, a deeper understanding of assembly processes of discrete molecular building-blocks into infinite architectures of precise dimensionality and composition is desired. The organic solid-state has already provided useful guidelines for effective supramolecular synthetic procedures. The possibility of transferring those guidelines from organic to metal-organic systems caught our attention as, due to their inherent complexity, these systems are still lacking similar protocols. In this research we have focused on cadmium(II) complexes with simple halide anions, as a charge compensating entities, and small N- heterocyclic ligands encoded with functional groups that has already been well established in purely organic systems in the context of formation predictable supramolecular motifs. Here we employed the same functionalities to examine their selectivity for the hydrogen- bonding motif formation in the metal-organic assemblies with the idea in mind of transferability of supramolecular motifs form organic to metal-organic systems. The experimental setup was based on liquid diffusion method of crystallization. The structures were determined by single-crystal X- ray diffraction. The surprising results will be discussed in detail.
