Sažetak
Whereas thermal monitoring in highly exothermic reactions (e.g. mechanochemical self-sustained reactions), 1 allowed defining models of mechanochemical reactivity for hard inorganic materials, the influence of the system temperature on the reactivity in the other types of mechanosyntheses is still poorly understood. Indeed, the first in situ and real-time mechanistic studies of milling reactions were gained only recently, by introduction of advanced monitoring techniques using synchrotron X-ray diffraction2-3 or Raman spectroscopy4 in specially designed equipment. These techniques enabled direct investigation of the influence of different additives or milling conditions on the mechanism of even very fast mechanochemical reactions. Here we present the results of the first in situ X-ray powder diffraction investigation of the effect of temperature on the course of a mechanochemical reaction. The model reaction, the assembly of coordination polymers by reaction of cadmium chloride with cyanoguanidine, 5 was monitored in custom-designed instrumentation, permitting simultaneous control of temperature and X-ray diffraction on the reaction mixture as it is being milled. The presented results not only demonstrate unexpectedly high sensitivity of a mechanochemical reaction to mild temperature variations, but also provide a new entry into understanding and controlling mechanochemical reactivity.
