Sažetak
Tourism is, by far, one of the most important economic activities with the Croatian economy. Over the past decade, nautical tourism has especially stood out in terms of development possibilities. Its real boom, however, is yet to come. Around the world and in the Mediterranean, nautical tourism has emerged as a sociological tidal wave splashing against the shores of many maritime countries. It has become a need and, indeed, a habit for people of the new industrial era to use their leisure time to establish a particular relationship with nature and the alluring charms of the sea in places other than their usual residence. This has made nautical tourism one of the fastest growing segments of maritime activities. Worldwide, it is beginning to develop on a massive scale alongside all other forms of maritime tourism. Although the Croatian coast is ranked among the top coasts of the world with regard to its favourable climate, physical and geographical appeal, and its clean environment, the extent to which Croatia’s nautical tourism participates in nautical tourism flows in the Mediterranean is negligibly low. This indicates that Croatia has not even begun to take advantage of the enormous opportunities it has in developing nautical tourism. it is necessary, therefore, to examine all the factors affecting the growth and development of nautical tourism, as well as the goals nautical tourism must achieve to help drive the growth and development of Croatia’s entire economy. This paper illustrates the participation of Croatia’s nautical tourism in nautical tourism flows in the Mediterranean by focusing on the state of nautical tourism in Croatia and in leading nautical countries of the Mediterranean
