Sažetak
The development of modern tourism dates back to the beginning of the 80’s. This trend has continued into the present and it is marked by the fall of so-called mass tourism and the growing development of individual and family tourism. Modern trends in tourism development are bringing essential changes to the tourist offer and to tourist demand. In doing so, these trends impact on the development of the hotel industry in world proportions. The steady upward trend of foreign tourist traffic in Europe and throughout the world is crucial in determining the contemporary trends in the development of entrepreneurship in the hotel industries of Europe, and of Croatia, as well. In this context, Croatia is experiencing qualitative and quantitative improvements, despite the lack of fresh finance capital, which could facilitate a fairly rapid transformation of Croatian tourist enterprises and the implementation of European standards.
