Sažetak
Despite the fact that commemorations of Romani victims in Croatia during World War II have continuously been held over the last few years, numerous questions remain unresolved – for example, commemorations of Romani victims who perished outside the Jasenovac camp (e.g. in other camps, such as Danica in Koprivnica), the systematic building of a collective culture of remembrance (there is currently a glaring lack of memorial objects and monuments), etc. In addition, it is apparent that a joint effort of the Croatian economic community together with other Romani and/or European institutions is needed to further research the crimes committed against the Roma and thus add a further contribution towards highlighting the need to develop a culture of memory. A better approach to this topic within the Croatian education system is also necessary. The Croatian government needs to provide a broader public space for open and argument-based discussion on the extent of the Romani suffering and its effects on the Romani population. Together with other relevant institutions and individuals, it could thus help combat the increasing anti-ziganism and the appearance of ‘obscure’ attempts at historical revisionism.
