Sažetak
Expression of two oncogenes: c-myc and erbB-2, and two tumor suppressor genes: nm23-H1 and mutated p53 was studied in 85 breast carcinomas and 51 benign breast lesions. The method used was immunohistochemical detection of corresponding protein. The results were correlated with various clinical and histopathologic parameters. Presence of protein c-myc was high in both malignant and benign lesions (95% and 100% positive results). Presence of erbB-2 and mutated p53 proteins in malignant lesions was 27% and 34%. These proteins were present, although in smaller extent in benign lesions as well: 8% of benign lesions were positive for erbB-2 protein and about 20% for protein p53 protein. The expression of nm23-H1 gene was similar in benign and malignant lesions: 47% and 55%. We found tendency of negative correlation between expression of nm23-H1 protein and mutated p53. We also found several elements that speak in favour of correlation of nm23-H1 protein with more favorable phenotype: there was a tendency of negative correlation between size of malignant breast tumors and the expression of nm23-H1, there was a higher proportion of nm23-H1 positive cacrcinomas in the group of erbB-2-negative, p53-negative carcinomas, and the proportion of nm23-H1 positive carcinomas was higher in the group of malignant lesions with negative axillary lymph nodes.
