Sažetak
A key part of the maritime crew agent business is the employment of seafarers (apart from drafting the contracts between ship owners and seafarers), is finding the suitable personnel for filling the job vacancies advertised by the ship owners. Maritime crew agencies generally keep records of sailors in their own databases. However, it often happens that these databases do not contain the requested professionals (officers) or support staff. In those cases, agencies spend a lot of time finding the personnel possessing the required qualifications and experience. This paper researches the positive and negative sides of a common database of seafarers, their meaningfulness or drawbacks, and the attitudes of maritime crew agencies relating to common databases. A survey among Croatian maritime crew agencies was conducted in order to obtain the information on the operations of the agencies and their opinions on a proposed common seafarer database.
