Sažetak
Abstract: In order to protect tissues from damages, caused by excess of iron, mammals have a complex system, which limits accumulation of this element and detoxifies it. The system serves to scavange toxic quantities of iron and also for deprivingmicrobila and neoplastic invaders of iron essential for their growth. Control of tumour cell growth through perturbation of cellular iron metabolism is a potentially important strategy in the treatment of cancer. the ferric-sorbitol-citrate (FSC) and some ferrocenes are very interesting in that field because of their specific antitumour effect. These compounds could possibly be submitted as new anticancer substances with no weaker effect to non-malignant cells.
