Sažetak
Social skills are an important factor in students’ further career development. Some tertiary education institutions support the process of gathering student social competences thought participation in local community projects and volunteering. The main goal of this paper is to present a model of students volunteering activities and the role of institutional support through the Centre for Volunteering and Humanitarian Work. Students are involved in the projects linked to under- represented groups within the local community. Different projects are focused on different needs, for example, tutoring older people in the process of using information and communication technology, supporting sport for people with disabilities, organising food banks for low social income families, helping pupils from national minorities to enquire about language skills etc. The role of the Faculty is networking, informing and providing training and workshops. Through those activities, student volunteers increase their competences for the forthcoming labour market.
