Sažetak
From October 1, 1991 to June 30, 1992 1, 162 war casualties were treated at the Emergency Unit of the Department of Surgery, Medical Center Karlovac, 687 (59, 1%) were treated on an outpatient basis, 424 (36, 5%) were admitted and hospitalized 27 (2.3%) died during reanimation. Antitetatus drugs were most commonly used (in 64.2% cases), followed by lidocaine (31.8%), analgesics (26.2%), infusions (25%), and antibiotics (24.8%). The most frequently used antibiotics were gentamicin (92%), clindamycin (51.7%) and benzyl penicillin (41.3%). Other antibiotics were applied in 8.7% cases. Metamizole was given as analgesic to 304 (26.2%) patients, while 275 (23.7%) received also opioid analgesics. Infusions of electrolyte solutions were administered to 290 (25%) patients and 25 (2.2%) received also plasma substitutes. This study could be valuable in planning the needs of an emergency surgery unit in a war area, or of a mobile surgery team.
