Sažetak
AIM: To explore correlation between ion release, wire type and acidity values of artificial saliva of nickel-titanium wires with different coatings. MATERIALS AND METHOD: Uncoated (NiTi) and rhodium-coated (RhNiTi) nickel-titanium wires were immersed in artificial saliva solutions (1.5 g/l KCl, 1.5 g/l NaHCO3, 0.5 g/l, NaH2PO4–H2O, 0.5 g/l KSCN, 0.9 g/l lactic acid). The pH values were adjusted to 5.5 and 6.6 with the use of lactic acid and NaOH. Specimens were incubated at 37 °C for 28 days. Released nickel and titanium ions were measured by means of inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES). All experiments were performed in triplicate. Data was analysed with two-way ANOVA and Student-Newman-Keuls post-hoc test. RESULTS: The release of nickel correlated to the wire type (p=0, 025 ; η2=0, 263), but not to the pH value. The NiTi wire released significantly less nickel at pH value 6.6 (p=0, 018 ; η2=0, 698). The release of titanium correlated to the wire type (p<0, 001 ; η2=0, 801) and the pH value (p<0, 001 ; η2=0, 633). The RhNiTi wire released significantly less titanium at pH value 6.6 (p=0, 004 ; η2=0, 798). CONCLUSIONS: Coating on the wire surface modifies the release of ions from nickel-titanium wires in artificial saliva with different acidity. The release of titanium depends on acidity level of artificial saliva.
