Sažetak
Treatment in the intensive care unit and prolonging life under any circumstances for some patients in some instances may only prolong the process of dying. In this paper is disscused the principle of medical ethics in the practice of intensive care units: education about medical ethics, indication for patient admission in ICU, patients with terminal illness, informed con-sent, and do-not- resuscitate orders. The paper also contemplates relation be-tween physicians, colleagues, and patients, especially the responsibility of physician and responsibility of administration. Making ethical decision in or-der to stop prolonging the life is not so simple, because there is lack of knowl-edge and experience in making such resolution.
