Sažetak
Entrepreneurship is important for the development of society and the economy as a whole. Consequently, there is an increasing number of different programs that encourage the development of entrepreneurship, especially aimed at certain groups (the youth, women…), as a way of solving the issue of unemployment of those groups. Because women are more numerous in the population, as well as in unemployment, “female entrepreneurship” is becoming a hot topic. Entry of women into entrepreneurship is hindered by various barriers ; administrative, cultural, financial and many others, and since the importance of women in entrepreneurship is becoming increasingly recognised, there are more and more different programmes and incentives that help women overcome the above barriers and solve the issue of unemployment through self-employment. The aim of the paper is to show the importance and characteristics of ”female entrepreneurship“, and to present in one place the most common problems and barriers faced by women entrepreneurs in Croatia. This paper presents the experience of several European countries, which have reduced the barriers through various projects and initiatives, and encouraged women to enter the world of entrepreneurship. Based on these experiences, recommendations for improvement of the state of “female entrepreneurship“ in Croatia are given.
