Sažetak
Nowadays, papermaking and graphic industry has significantly focused on alternative nonwood raw materials, since due to increased deforestation availability of wood as a raw material for cellulose fibres is reduced. In agricultural countries, like Croatia, straw is available in large quantity as a by-product of crop farming, therefore it is selected as interesting alternative for cellulose fibres. In this research, fibres isolated from barley straw were used and mixed with recycled wood fibres in order to produce alternative paper substrate. The reproduction quality of these alternative paper substrates was observed by way of analyzing line reproduction quality. Produced alternative paper substrate could became a commercial material in graphic industry if they provide same or better quality reproduction compared to reproductions on control paper made only from recycled wood fibres.
