Sažetak
The motivation of EURADOS WG9 (Radiation Protection Dosimetry in Medicine) is to assess undue, non-target patient doses in radiotherapy and the related risks of secondary malignancy with the most accredited available methods, with the emphasis on a thorough evaluation of dosimetry methods for the measurement of doses remote from the target volume in phantom experiments. It is recognized that, thanks to improved techniques, cure/survival rates in radiotherapy are increasing, but secondary cancers might also increase in the future. These occurrences are amplified by the early detection of disease especially in younger patients. These patients are cured from the primary disease and have long life-expectancies, which increase their probabilities of developing secondary malignancies. The proposed work of this WG is designed to generate a robust dataset of out of-field dose measurements which can be used for the development and validation of dose algorithms. The determination of out-of-field doses in paediatric radiotherapy treatments, using various photon and proton radiotherapy techniques, is now the main clinical focus of the Group. The first specific aims for photon (and proton) paediatric radiotherapy treatments are:  To identify a list of clinical situations and treatment protocols which lead to healthy-tissue doses of concern.  To evaluate the characteristics of different dosimeters for out-of-field measurements  To perform joint clinical measurements with partners at selected hospitals using various photon and proton radiotherapy techniques. In two measurement campaigns in Krakow, dosimeters were irradiated at Maria Sklodowska-Curie Memorial Institute of Oncology. The treatment of a spherical brain tumour with a diameter of 6 cm was simulated with 6 MV photon beams for Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) and 3D Conformal Radiotherapy (3D CRT). In measurement campaign in Zagreb, dosimeter were irradiated in two medical centres: Clinical Hospital Centre Zagreb (irradiations by Gamma Knife with the same irradiation conditions for brain tumour as in Krakow) and in Clinical Hospital for Tumour were 3D CRT craniospinal irradiations were performed. For organ dose measurements CIRS phantom 5 and 10 year-old CIRS anthropomorphic phantoms were used. Several types of dosimeters from different institutions were used: thermoluminescent, types MTS6 from NPI ASCR, Prague, MTS7 from NPI ASCR, Prague and IFJ Krakow and MCP from SCK-CEN, Mol ; optically stimulated, OSL from SCK-CEN, Mol and radiophotoluminescent RPL types GD-352M and GD-302M from RBI.
